Project inspiration

Recycled paper earrings

We started our inspiration search by heading over to Etsy to see what kinds of unique upcycled jewelry might be trending right now. We saw a lot of great jewelry pieces made from upcycled materials, but this particular listing caught our attention. These little book earring studs were just folded up in the cutest way. **Attn: this is not an ad. But it does get better…

When we looked a little further, we noticed FourMoonsRecycled (Recycled Jewelry by Danielle) also shows the materials used in making these earrings.

AND upon reviewing the listing, we noticed these goodies are shipped with reused/compostable shipping materials. Oh, did we mention this little flag from Etsy, itself too?

Truly, this is not an ad. But we thought it was an outstanding project example for our upcycled jewelry prompt, and inspiration at it’s finest. Bravo FourMoonsRecycled!

Plastic container earrings

Next we turned our attention to Pinterest where we discovered these earrings upcycled from plastic bottles. We were reminded of a tutorial we once saw: cut plastic into small pieces, and use a heat gun to transform the plastic strips into bead-like shapes. Looks like upcycler Judith Žažová beat us to this one, but what do you think, worth a try?

🪡An absolutely shining example of embroidery, using a simple grid.

📘A “how long until it’s gone” guide. Have we seen these before? Yes. Do they shock us any less each time? No.

👝A reuse idea for plastic food bags.

🍁Quite possibly one of the most beautiful uses of pressed leaves we’ve seen, and just in time for fall.

A Broken Necklace Makes a Wedding Dress by Gabriela Chagas

This week’s post by Gabriela Chagas couldn’t be more well-timed for our upcycled jewelry project! Read along as she shares beautiful memories of her grandmother and how she embellished her handmade wedding dress with a broken necklace of pearls.

“Keep your broken beads and lost earrings. You never know when you may need them. A broken necklace turned clothes made from leftover cotton into a dreamy wedding dress.“

From the community:

Theresa shared an absolutely stunning yard light upcycle, made from a curb-found chandelier and a large bird cage. Brilliant idea, Theresa!
