Gingham Earrings, Fresh Ideas & Your Say in February’s Theme!

A little project wrap-up, a little inspiration, and a chance to shape what’s next!

Last week, I wrote about unfinished projects, and my pursuit to power through the valleys of my ‘project heartbeat’ to see a few projects to the end. One of those projects sitting on a shelf was an idea I had for ribbon earring studs using this adorable vintage floral ribbon I’d had for ages.

This project was almost too simple, yet for whatever reason I set the project aside for so long, I had given up and ended up listing the ribbon on Remnants. But as I did, a disappointment washed over me. I tried to feel good about passing these remnants onto someone else who would make good use of them, but I knew the moment I’d see them sell I’d feel sad. Why not just go ahead and make the earrings? What as holding me back?

Well your replies to last week’s newsletter inspired me:

“When I “mess up” a project, I ignore it for awhile and work on another project. Eventually, a solution to the ignored project becomes apparent. So I do what I can, though it may not be what I originally planned. My gusto is restored and the project is finished.”

Lynn

“Personally, I've realized that I'm in a better mood to work on [unfinished projects] after I work out. My mind is already in a 'Let's do this!' mode, so that keeps going. That and just making the space inviting to finish it. Maybe someone gets more done while at the beach or at a park. Someone else might like getting cozy and shelter in place. Knowing yourself, observing yourself, being mindful of you is probably the best place to start :)”

So this weekend for our monthly craft meetup, I decided to return to this unfinished project. I found a pair of old earring posts in my collection, trimmed a couple of gingham flowers, and made my very first pair. Honestly so easy. So cute.

I was so happy to see this super simple vision come to life, and I just love how they turned out. I’ve been wearing them almost daily.

You all continue to inspire me every single week. Hopefully our projects this week will inspire you right back. If you take up an unfinished project, reply here and send an update my way.

Happy upcycling!
