Refresh, Renew... Redirect?

A transformational month

Don’t you just love the month of May? A transition from spring to summer. The end of school years. The start to summer vacations. Each year we welcome the the month of May with May poles and flowers. We plant gardens, empty old bins and clean out closets. It’s a regeneration time. A time to change, to refresh, to renew.

Our flipped paintings project is about renewal, too. Giving a second chance to a piece of art. Making something fresh from something old. This week, we’re digging into the ideal of renewal from art renewed to art supplies renewed. Follow along below and don’t forget to…

Art Renewed

3D Garage Sale Art Flip

This garage sale print makeover is almost three dimensional with Mitzi’s clever use of cutouts and layering. Bonus! Mitzi’s technique demonstrates a unique way we can use wrappers, old plastic and vellum to spice up an art makeover.

Religious Art Made Modern

Raise your hand if like us you’ve passed right by roughly 1 billion religious works of art in thrift store without ever even considering a modern update like the one by @ryan.snyd? We love an upcycling king 👑 who can turn something simple into something so interesting. Technique take-away? Don’t sleep on perspective, and clever color blocking.

Boring Art Made Fun

Roy Jack’s landscape got a little bit of a lift, but we’re not mad about it. We think taking something discarded and making it usable is the whole point! And if monsters in the park is the way you want to play it so be it. Play all day. If you don’t want to paint monsters of your own, nab this one here »

Art Redirected

The work below is by David Irvine, artist behind The Gnarled Branch, a brand known world wide for “redirected” thrift store paintings - as he puts it. David’s series is filled with perfectly silly, absolutely beautifully executed updates. We aspire to have the creative vision to paint dinosaurs shooting laser beams from their eyeballs at Elvis impersonators riding Segways amiright? 🦖

Remnants: Art Supplies Rehomed

Using what’s available in the world is part of our ethos, and that goes for sourcing everyday creative supplies, too. We’re building a list of the best stores around the country that sell or even give away (you heard us) used arts and craft supplies. Browse the list here to find a store near you »

This week, Janie shared a collection of upcycled and embellished clothes. Give your words of encouragement (or smash like for praise) here »

Whether you’re redirecting, renewing, or rehoming artworks this month, we’re just glad you’re doing it with us at Peo Vee. Share your stories with us as always, we love to hear from you.

In this together,
