This Week in Scraps, Stories & Community

From scrap-art faces to teacup pincushions and pet toys, here’s what’s new (and fleeting!) in the world of upcycling.

Last week, we launched a new project theme that I’ve been really excited about: Make Something Temporary. It’s all about arranging scraps, leftovers, or found materials into something expressive—even if it’s fleeting.

This week, I finally joined in—and wow, it was more satisfying than I expected. First up: I made a little face out of odds and ends I had sitting on my desk. I was inspired by the pom-pom trim and pink trim being the same length and making the perfect mouth. I played. I dropped in tape for eyes, thread spools for pupils… it was weird and wonderful.

There’s something freeing about creating just to create—not to preserve or perfect. I highly recommend giving it a try. Snap a photo, wipe it away, and make room for the next idea. Share what you make with us in our new community project space.

Let’s get into what else is happening this week in the Peo Vee community →

🌱 What’s Happening in the Community

We’re just starting to see members trickle into our new Peo Vee community space, and it’s already starting to feel like home. If you haven’t made the move yet, now’s the time—our old site sunsets May 25th, and you’ll need to create a new account on the new platform to stay connected.

Curious? Head over to community.peovee.com to sign up and join in the fun.

To keep the momentum going, we’re running a Question of the Day all month long in May. It’s been a fun way to spark conversation and get to know each other—come add your voice!

And for our Remnants sellers, we’re soon launching a new seller space inside the community. It’s a place to gather, share tips, ask questions, and connect with fellow sellers who get it. If you’re listing on Remnants, we truly can’t wait to get to know you better there.

➡️ New Project Inspiration 💫

Wine Cork Coasters

An exciting (and actually useful!) project idea by The Table Read—turn your leftover wine corks into coasters. What better use for cork than something designed to protect your surfaces? It’s simple, satisfying, and a great excuse to finally do something with that growing cork collection. 🍷♻️

Another we liked from their list?

Upcycled Pet Toys.

Got a pet that loves to chew, chase, or tug? Turn that energy into a reason to upcycle. Old t-shirts, sock singles, or scrap fabric can become your next great gift to your furry friend. Braid them, knot them, or bundle them into oddball shapes—they won’t care if it’s perfect, they’ll just love that it smells like you. Bonus points if it squeaks. 🐶♻️🐱

And last but not least, an adorable teacup set turned into a pincushion!

Teacup Pincushions

Shared by Re-Scape Inspired Recycling, this charming project turns delicate teacup sets into beautiful and functional pincushions. A bit of fabric, some stuffing, and a dash of creativity—and suddenly that lonely teacup becomes a perfect home for your pins and needles. It’s an elegant way to repurpose vintage dishware and add a touch of charm to your sewing space. Practical and pretty! 🧵💐
